“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.”
Jesus will always be the one who knows you best. If we’re being honest, He knows more about us than we know about ourselves. The love He has for us can’t even be measured compared to anyone else.
I’ll admit it, I’m a terrible friend sometimes. Not in the sense that I betray people, but when it comes to remembering important things, I fall short. This past year, we were getting ready to go to a wedding for some friends. As we got out of the car, we saw other friends and smiled, thinking we were all excited for the ceremony. But then we realized something, we were an hour late. The wedding had already ended. We had missed a once-in-a-lifetime moment for that couple. We felt awful.
The truth is, people will let you down sometimes. We aren’t perfect. We make mistakes, and things happen. Thankfully, that situation didn’t ruin our relationship. We’re still close with that couple. But what if we kept missing their big moments? Eventually, they might start to pull away. That’s just human nature.
Now think about how often we do that with Jesus. Every single day, we miss what He has planned for us because we’re too busy scrolling, worrying, working, or getting distracted by things that don’t really matter. Yet despite all of that, Jesus still loves us.
He is the true best friend who will never walk away. No matter how many opportunities we miss or how many times we mess up, His love never changes.
That’s what a real friend looks like.
